My name is Fatima Hamza Adam, better known as Fati Gwarama.
Can you tell the readers a brief history of yourself?
I was born in Lagos, but I grew up in Kano. My mother was from Kano, and my father was from Bauchi. I did my primary and secondary schooling in Kano.
What made you decide to get into the film industry?
I have been interested in acting since I was a child, because even in school I was the one who led the ‘Hausa Club’. After I finished school, I didn’t tell my parents because my father was terminally ill until God gave him the strength. After my father’s death, I told my mother, and she supported me.
Are you saying you didn’t face any challenges from your mother?
Yes, I didn’t face any challenges from her, because of the way she treated me.
How was your struggle to enter the industry?
Well, I faced challenges because we Hausa and Fulani are not very good at film, but because my mother supported me, it came easy for me. Then God took her away and the challenges continued, but Alhamdulillah.
Who did you first encounter when you first entered the kannywood industry?
I first met Lawan Ahmad, Salisu S. Fulani, Ali Rabi’u Ali Daddy, Aminu Asarab and others.
Which film did you start with?
The name of the film is ‘Cikin Wane’, which was directed by ‘director G Sharif’.
How did you start?
There was a producer called Ali bet, and he was from our neighborhood. Through him, we met the ‘director’ and he gave me the role of the heroine in the whole film.
How many films have you done?
I have done about twenty or more films.
Can you tell the readers the names of a few of the films you have appeared in?
Yes, actually there are many, but I have only mentioned a few; “A Wani Gida, Kakanda, Maryama, Izzar so, Hujja, Ki Yafe Ni, and many more.
Which of the films you have appeared in has been your favorite, and why?
I love every film I have appeared in, but I love the film ‘A wani Gida’ the most, because I have suffered a lot, and I am in the midst of losing my mother. And then I was thought that I could not do it, because of the situation I was in, but in the end I did something that was not thought of, because of that I have been very blessed.
What kind of successes have you had in film?
I have had a lot of successes in film that I cannot tell you about, but Alhamdulillah, it was a success.
What kind of challenges have you ever faced in film?
Yes! Well, you know that every profession has its challenges and I myself have faced a lot of challenges, especially with our colleagues. Because some of them do not know the progress of someone who came after them, and some of us make kyashi, and sometimes I don’t give you salt.
After the challenges you have faced, is there anything that has ever happened that you are happy or otherwise that you will never forget in your life?
What I cannot forget is the loss of my parents within a year, I will never forget it. Because I miss my parents very much.
Who is your boss in the Kannywood industry?
No one progresses without the help of someone else, Ali Bet is my first boss in this industry of ours.
Before you entered the Kannywood industry, which actors impressed you, and why?
Yes! Well, there are no actors that I like like Hafsa Shehu, and Ahmad S. Nuhu, I know them very well. Because I knew her until her wedding, I was taken and I went to her house when she was a bride and we had a fight, I told you that Ahmad died in Our house that day no one broke down because I was crying, my father died, so these are the ones I want.
What is your next dream about the movie?
Well, my dream is to see us unite and remove jealousy, and I know I have brought about change and progress in it.
Speaking of marriage, when do you plan to get married?
He is a man of his time, and he always comes and welcomes me.
Is there any actor who has ever said that he loves you and will marry you in the industry?
Yes, there is someone we have talked about marriage with but I cannot reveal him.
Do you have any other profession besides films?
Yes, I am a film writer, and I also do business.
Some in the Kannywood industry are complaining about the industry, what is it, and is he part of it?
Well, every industry has its pros and cons, and the film industry is an industry that accepts everything you bring, and it is an industry that will get everything you come for.
Do you have any advice for those trying to enter the industry?
Anyone who knows this industry should come in with good intentions, because whatever you come for, you get.
